2017 Photo Contest

It’s that time of year again! The Waccamaw Riverkeeper’s 2017 Photography Contest has begun and it has a few twists this year. The goals of this contest are to highlight the natural beauty of the Winyah Bay watershed and to support the Waccamaw RIVERKEEPER® program of Winyah Rivers Foundation. The contest is open to everyone and emphasis in judging will be given to photographs that show the splendor and charm of our local rivers and ecosystems.

Entries will be accepted from February 11th until April 21st, 2017. There are four contest categories:

  • Wildlife

  • Scenic

  • Hurricane/ Flood

  • Georgetown County

There is a $10.00 fee for each entry with no limit to the number of entries permitted. New this year: Best in Show will receive a cash prize of $150, 1st Place winners in each category will also be awarded $100.00 cash and new this year is a Viewers Vote with $50 in cash prize.  All 2nd & 3rd place winners will also be awarded.  All photo entries will be available on our website’s gallery for a Viewers’ Vote and will be eligible for a chance to be selected as the “Viewer’s Voted Choice”. This winner will be chosen by the number of public votes it receives. Voting closes on May 4th and the winners will be announced at the reception on May 5th. Winners are eligible for only one prize. Winners will be allowed to purchase their enlarged photo made by 803 LABS after their tour. 

Winners will be announced at a reception at the Burroughs-Chapin Art Museum on Friday, May 5th from 5:30pm-7:00pm. The winning photographs will hang in the Museum, followed by the Horry County Courthouse and other venues.
