Public Notice- Black River Mine
A North Carolina-based company, RDA, LLC, applied in July 2017 for a permit to construct and operate a 20-year limestone mine on nearly 1,000 acres in the rural community of Earle, SC.
DHEC’s Bureau of Land and Waste Management (BLWM) and Bureau of Air Quality (BAQ) held a joint public hearing to accept written and verbal comments on the mine application, draft mine permit, and draft air permit for the proposed RDA Mine in Williamsburg County. The public hearing began with a rally at 5:30 pm on Thursday, July 26, 2018, followed by the public hearing in the auditorium of Andrews High School located at 12890 County Line Road in Andrews, SC. Winyah Rivers, other concerned community organizations, citizens, property owners and elected officials gathered to demand that SC DHEC officials deny a large-scale mining project in Williamsburg County.
Special thanks to Williamsburg county council, Mayor of Andrews, many environmental organizations and the Earle community who raised concerns about long-lasting damage the mine will cause to the community and to the area's natural resources. Please take action now before August 10th, 2018.
