Winyah Rivers Foundation is pleased to announce The Kindness Rocks Project on the Waccamaw River. The Kindness Rocks Project was created to help inspire others through randomly placed kindness rocks. The goal of the project is to recruit every person who stumbles upon it tojoin in the pursuit of inspiring others through random acts of kindness. The goal of the Waccamaw Riverkeeper Kindness Rocks Project is to connect with our community, highlight the beauty and natural splendor of the Waccamaw River and to create a ripple effect of kindness and connection along our riverbanks.
On Saturday, July 15th the Waccamaw Riverkeeper and Conway Parks and Recreation hosted our first kindness rocks painting party at the Conway Riverwalk Park. The Conway Riverwalk Park is the official adopted landing of the Waccamaw Riverkeeper and we are so excited to kick-off this project at our home landing.
Through our partnerships with Horry County Parks and Recreation and the City of Conway Parks and Recreation we are pleased to announce that the Kindness Rocks Project on the Waccamaw River will be located at several of the public landings throughout the county.
Currently, there are rocks placed throughout the Conway Riverwalk Park. We encourage the community to decorate and place their own rocks at the park, either at the sign explaining the project or hidden in the park for others to find. The project operates on the idea of “place one, take one.” If you find a rock you like, move it to a place that is meaningful to you for others to find.
The purpose is to spread kindness. To learn more about the project or to join today, find our group called #thekindnessrocksproject on the Waccamaw River, #KRWR and refer to our 1 page info sheet, How to Join.
We hope you will join us today and spread kindness! Learn more in our #thekindnessrocksproject on the Waccamaw River Group.
In the Fall of 2017, Winyah Rivers Foundation was selected as an Ambassador for The Kindness Rocks Project. After receiving hundreds of submissions they selected the most engaged, enthusiastic and kind advocates to join The Kindness Rocks Project Ambassador Program for the upcoming year – and we are grateful to be one of them!
STEP #1 YOU WILL NEED SOME ROCKS!
Flat smooth rocks work best. Local craft store or garden centers typically sell smooth river stones. The 3″ to 5″ size work best!
STEP #2 PREPARE THE ROCKS BY SPRAYING OR PAINTING THEM WITH NON-TOXIC SPRAY/PAINT (AVAILABLE AT ANY CRAFT OR HARDWARE STORE)
This will prepare the rock surface for your artwork/writing and seal the rock so your paint pens will last longer.
STEP #3 USE OIL BASE SHARPIE PAINT PENS TO CREATE YOUR ARTWORK
They work best… and are easy to work with, and last a long time. Prismacolor Premier non toxic dual tip markers work best for creative writing (available in craft stores in the art section)
BE SURE TO ADD…#THEKINDNESSROCKSPROJECT and #KRWR (Kindness Rocks on the Waccamaw River) to the back of each rock you drop so others can join us and share their pictures when they find one, that way you can follow the journey of your rock…
STEP #4 FINALLY PAINT A FINAL COAT OF NON-TOXIC CLEAR SEALANT
STEP #5 THE ROCK DROP.
National parks and forests have a leave no trace policy. Please contact our office for a list of participating landings in Horry County.
