Know Your Waccamaw River Water Quality Before You Get Your Feet Wet

Each year, 3.5 million Americans get sick from unknowingly swimming in contaminated waters. Here on the coast, we often focus on the water quality of our beaches, but forget our rivers are also used for recreation and can be impacted by poor water quality.

Currently, two dedicated student interns with the Waccamaw RIVERKEEPER® Program are working hard to make sure our communities have the information they need to safely enjoy our beautiful blackwater river.

One project focuses on providing important water quality information to communities in a format they can easily access. We know not everyone wants to see graphs and data – we just want to know if it’s safe to go play in the river!

To help us understand the needs of the community, please CLICK HERE to participate in the Community Water Quality Data Resource Needs Assessment Survey.

Additionally, the Waccamaw RIVERKEEPER® wants to make recreational water quality data on the Waccamaw River available through a free app, Swim Guide. This is yet another tool we can use to see if our water is safe.

To help us identify the areas to monitor on the Waccamaw and how we can better inform the community, please CLICK HERE to take the Swim Guide Survey.

Please take a few moments to help the Waccamaw RIVERKEEPER® interns make a splash with their projects by taking these two surveys. Your help is greatly appreciated!
