River Hero of the Week 5/22/2026!

Your Waccamaw Riverkeeper recently hosted students from North Myrtle Beach Christian School for a fantastic kayak trip on the Waccamaw River. During the outing, Riverkeeper Preston spoke about conservation and responsible stewardship to a highly receptive and enthusiastic group. Inspired by the discussion, the students launched an impromptu river cleanup, collecting trash and roughly 150 cigarette butts along the way. Preston thoroughly enjoyed the day and looks forward to working with these students again in the spring, continuing to teach the next generation the vital importance of protecting our rivers and wildlife.
