Volunteer Spotlight

Our volunteers are the heart and soul and the sweat and tears of our organization.

All of our volunteers are special and very much appreciated. Here are a few…

Board Members

Our Board Members serve as volunteers to our organization, ensuring that we meet our commitments as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and our mission. Today, we recognize the following for their service:

Doug Smith from Old Dock, NC and advocate for protection of the Waccamaw watershed in North Carolina, including conservation of 3,000 acres on and adjacent to his property.

Jessie White, Esq., formerly of Pawley’s Island, SC (re-located to Beaufort, SC) and advocate for protection of our coastal resources in her role as Staff Attorney with South Carolina Environmental Law Project.

Robert J. Moran, Esq., formerly of Pawley’s Island, SC (deceased December 2018), gone too soon but never forgotten.

See the list of our current Board Members here.

Archie Biggs – 2018 Volunteer of the Year

Congratulations to our 2018 Volunteer of the Year, Archie Biggs! We’re so honored to recognize Archie for his passion and commitment to our rivers and community. Read below to learn why Archie is “all in.”

Archie is a longtime volunteer, in fact an original volunteer, with our Waccamaw River Volunteer Monitoring Program. Until recently, Archie served as the team leader for Team #4, the team of dedicated volunteers that sample at Wachesaw Landing (Wacca Wache), Enterprise Landing and Peachtree Landing.

It has been a wonderful experience and we have fun no matter what the weather or circumstances. Our water quality monitoring program makes a real difference here locally and in our state.” -Archie

We are so grateful for Archie’s dedication as a volunteer to Winyah Rivers Alliance!
